Good lord...Recieved
and Configured an Ascend Pipeline 75 this weekend for use on my LAN. The
pipeline75 is an ISDN router that allows all devices on my network to access
resources outside of our network thru the ISDN line. Why would anyone really
care? Well, I now have an extra Motorola Bitsurfer Pro for sale. $150 sounds
ok...-T2d

Q2 in 8 days? Until
they announce that they've shipped the master CD to be massed produced
like they did for Quake, I wont believe any ETA's that I hear. I've also
Heard Nov 24th?
In other News...EDK has Extended an invitation
to Tadiran to join EDK and he has accepted. Tadiran will be our first true
LPB, which should be interesting.

Web Maintenance : In
response to reports that the EDK page had become 800x600 unfriendly, I
redid the proportions a little. The logo frame went from 250 to 150 and
the left side frame went from 200 to 140 or so. Np. Some of links are new
on the left...some are old. The Raleigh Quake Lan
Party (RQLP) link is new with a little about that topic. The forum
is a private forum for EDK members only. The recruit
info is going to be a form folks could fill out that would mail
someone within edk (or multiple people) when submitted. The Info/History
link has general info but also has like the edk skin pack and the
large edk logo's suitable for wall paper...and of course the members page
(Which I still need to do the logo for 2wild4U).
I thought actually of redoing the members section so that every member
has his/her own special logo. One example being something like this
one...tried to also simplify some things that either confused the focus
of the page or just cluttered it up.

Rumor has it
that Quake2 is slated to ship by November 15th. I've also seen it printed
that it's ETA is November 18th. I personally dont expect it till after
Thanksgiving, but would be pleasantly surprised if it came earlier. I remember
it seemed like Quake was never going to be released...it was sooooo behind
schedule. Hell, the first ETA dates for Quake were of the Chrismas before!
A good example of the wait would be thinking about how delayed the game
"Prey" is or even maybe Mech2 was. Windows98 was supposed to be out and
on the shelves before Xmas...now they're think Second Quarter of next year...
Redid some of the EDK page today adding
a different menu bar on the left. Also updated and cleaned up some of the
code/pages. Basic maintence that needs to be done from time to time. I
should probably look into using Frontpage98 since it is my new favorite
editor and seems to keep up with the links better than by hand. I will
also be updating the members page with graphics shortly...

WooHoo, 2 updates in a day! Anyway.
I finally got to see the pmodel/emodel in
action, and boy was it interesting. I actually caught some fool cheating.
The funny thing is he was the only player of his clan whose userinfo would
display the emodel/pmodel crc's. Here's the kicker...I got a screen shot.

EDK has offered
Wild1/2Wild4U an invitation to join EDK. Wild shows great potential
and is well respected in the quake community and will make an excellent
addition to the clan. On a sad note, [EDK]Vengence
has emailed everyone saying that he's going to be going inactive for a
while.
Commentary on QW
2.10:Even tho I haven't gotten the mdl checking thigie working
for some reason I think QW 2,1 is a worthy upgrade for it's improvements
on the client side for OpenGL players. I haven't read anything to the fact
but my GL playing is twice as smooth as it used to be. It's a lot like
the Q2demo in the fact that it's consistent thru out. I have heard some
issues of lockups and unbearable lag when using the 2.1 client over the
older 2.01 client so I would recommend backing up your quake directory
up before installing. On a down note...the Qspy is about to expire that
I use so I have been forced to upgrade to gamespy, which isn't as groovy
as Qspy in respect to Quake servers
In others news,
I put in a request like 2 weeks ago for a www.gibbed.com
site (free) and haven't heard but one thing from them, and that was that
they were working on it. The funny thing is that if you goto www.gibbed.com/edk,
it'll actually return a blank (sorta) page. So maybe something is forth
coming...I have figured out why I can't get the forums working with authentication
and will implement that on monday. That should be cool having the forums
back.
LAN Party....people
have asked me "When the next?". The answer is "Whenever!". Confused? Well
here's the deal...with all the holidays coming up and Quake2 nearing release...when
should the lan party be? What date would work for the majority of
the folks that would want to come? Even tho it sounds a long way off, around
New Years has been suggested, New Years eve falls on a Wednesday. Either
we could do it like Wednesday & Thursday and/or a variation of days
around that time. Drop me some mail if anyone has more ideas...

QW 2.1 is out. The readme info from Quakeworld.net...
The new QuakeWorld
clients only have a couple new features; the console command crosshair
2 give you a better looking red crosshair.
You may check
the CRC values of the player and eyes models of other users on a server
by typing users to get a list of users, and user id's
on the server,
then user <user id> to see information about that user. The keys pmodel
and emodel are the CRC values of their player and
eyes models.
The default player CRC value is 33168,
the default eyes CRC value is 6967.
If you plan to use the new Solaris clients, check
out the readme
file and note that an Ultra Sparc is recommended for ideal performance.

Hmm...Somehow
I lost the update I created last weekend (That never got posted) because
of Vnet's wierd ftp problems (Keeps timing out) which made updating
the page incrediblely hard. Anyway...
Added some visuals to the page with a
new logo (see above), the animated EDK dude (thx [EDK]Mindfazr),
and a quote of the month. This one brought to you by Mr. Henry Rollins
of Rollins Band. Had some problems with [Time-Bot]
this last weekend (fixed). Seems Mirc was just a lilttle too helpful in
trying to reconnect to one of the Gamesnet servers that went down. I have
it setup to try 999 times to reconnect at 30 second intervals. The thing
that killed it was an Mirc help screen that prompted the user to continue
trying or to click on the "help" button to try and troubleshoot the probelm
(doh!). Forums will be returning hopefully
this week as soon as the athentication problem is resolved, as in a lack
of. -T2d

Wow...what a weekend...The
Q2 Demo came out...it brings me back to the
days of qtest in the way that the whole feel of the game play is so different
than anything that is out there right now (except maybe Jedi
Knight, which looks like a real nice game...my roommate spent the
whole weekend playing it...no really). Some of the commands have changed,
some new quirks to work thru, and a new approach to multiplayer play (when
it comes out). I'm kinda pissed that I stayed up till past 2am Saturday
night (Sunday Morning) in the irc.3dnet.net/#quake channel with 500 of
my best friends waiting and hoping that it would come out in the next 5minutes
([EDK]Cornell was there...). It amazingly took folks crazy amounts of time
to download...I got it down in 35minutes at about 55kbs. But I think Raider
beat us all with his amazing 1 minute 37 second
download. All I can say is that if you don't have GL...ur playing a different
game than I am :>
.
The second
mentionable thing that happened was we finally played the EDK / Lagitus
GangGreen Div Genocide match that got rescheduled last thrusday. Somehow
we found a server we could all live with...pings weren't bad at all. Of
course this wouldn't be a Genocide match without it's fair share of problems.
In the second game I got dropped by my ISP and had to completely reconnect
(Which I've never had to do) as did another LagGG guy. And before that
we had been on a server that was having some serious PL spikes, and between
switching servers [EDK]Vengence blew a fuse at his house...fun never stops.
Anyway, long story short (too late). We lost by one in the first game and
took the next 2 to win the match. Here's the screen shots with efficiency
(the ones I sent to Asus). Game1
Game2 Game3.
Work it... -T2d

Couple cool things. Off of the Genocide
Tournament Home page:
Beacuse of the
fact I have gotten some complaints about people cheating and such, the
Genocide Tpurnament has implemented this rule. If some clan feels the other
clan is cheating they can talk to an official and ask them to make the
other clan take pics with people in front of them. This is at the officials
regard for him to implemented or not. Please dont start making clans take
pics just cause they kick the shit out of u!! -V1rg1n
Some of the rules that are different in the
Tourney are:
-
An OFFICIAL observer
must BE PRESENT for the matchs for verification of the match.
-
Only 1 observer
per clan will be permitted, so he can go in incase of some clan member
timing out or disconnecting. Other observers must watch using the QW
FAQ Proxy that will be setup.
-
A Demo MUST be made
of every match. This will be done almost always by an official observer.
-
NO PLAYERS CAN LEAVE
SERVER AFTER EACH ROUND UNTIL EFFICIENCY PIC ARE TAKEN!!! ( This is done
by going to console and typing "efficiency" and taking a pic of all the
player stats.)
Something of interest is the QW
FAQ Proxy in the second
rule. Interesting...very interesting.
Something not as cool is the fact that
the first (out of two) Quake2 demos to come out won't have the network
options (Sux1). O well. The new [Time-bot] script died yesterday (that
too sux'd1) and had to be replaced by the original (my homebrew script).
The time is right
on this post. I've been REAL busy with work and haven't been around
during prime time. I am a night owl and do believe that...the best quake
played is the quake played late...just my 2 cents worth (I'll be paying
for this time tho in the morning when trying to get up). -T2d

I suck...I let
my ISP bill get over due so they locked my account (for the weekend). That
sucked. Anyway, news in review. Clan EDK (that's us) looks to have finished
the Genocide pre-season at ranking of 15th (out of the 32 clan that made
the cut.). After the Genocide season is over
I'll post my thoughts on the tournament (please email me your thoughts).
We had some real good times and some real bad times over the course of
the season. I think that when the next tourney comes around, whether it
be the genocide tourney or otherwise, that things will be different just
from the experiences and lessons learned from the last. We will be playing
Lagitus GangGreen div. This Wednesday at 10:30pm
EST. They are a East coast clan so Hopefully we won't have to much problems
finding a serve that's good for both teams. One change in the rules for
tournament play is that it's best of 3. It's not a combination of scores...win
or lose.
In other news...we
have an IRC bot up now in the Channel. [Time-Bot].
This is my own bot running a slightly modified version of the Mirc script
"Ne><gen". It has a few tricks the other
one didn't have. !edkmenu will show users
a list of commands it recognizes from users (of any level). Pretty Cool.
Something else that
might be happening is that this page once again might be moving.
This site might eventually become permanent since I know the dude who's
machine it's running on. For those keeping count (no one but me),
this would be the 3rd move of the EDK page. The good news is that their
are pointers from the original spot to the current home (including from
cltonline). The reason? A possible domain name might also be in it's future,
Vengence would be able to help in editing/updating, the public and private
forums would return. better CGI/Frontpage support(Counters/New member Forms),
and overall better quality of service.
O, and I finally got the LAN
party pictures back (after throwing a fit) and will scan (and rescan
some of) the pictures in and post them up here today and/or tomorrow. The
ones I already have aren't worth posting till I rescan them...
I will probably update this again tonight
but went ahead and did a quick update now since I had a second. -T2d

Not particularly Quake
- Went and Saw Talk Show (Basically STP) and the Foo Fighters livein
concert tonight. Both bands pretty much rocked. There's a TON of bands
coming around in October. Primus/Sister Machine Gun/Offspring/Type

that tells it just like it is. Instead of offering large over sized scripts
that no one would ever learn or use, it gives you just what you want, which
are the core componentsin easy copy/paste examples. Mirc
scripts and add-ons. I will say if you can't get them working at first...try

Some pretty cool stuff happening...as some
have heard about the .mdl cheats folks have been doing, I over heard in
the KnightMare Channel that this conversation took place earlier, which
is of course good news!
Zoid> Ok, the CRC
of player.mdl and eyes.mdl is in. You can tell if people are playing with
modified eyes or player models. Heh, CTF uses a different player model,
so you can check that too. :)
EG|Drakken> wow
Zoid
EG|Drakken> so people
cant use the eyes.mdl hack?
Zoid> Not unless
you want to show everyone you used the eyes.mdl hack :)
Something bluesnews or Redwood won't be picking
up probably...
In EDK Clan news...Spitfire
has left the clan to pursue other interests and Vengence
has been invited back as a member. Mirage
has left as well to goto Rage as Biohazard|rage...on
that same subject, I have given up on trying to be a hpb/lpb and am turning
my efforts to recruiting more folks and getting an lpb team going. This
is probably just a temporary thing till I can get my ISDN router working
again, which will make switching to analog a 1,000 times easier. Right
now I have to disconnect, go into control panel->Network, change the RAS
device, go into Control Panel->Services and stop all the RAS services and
then then restart them. Sometimes that works with no problem, other times
I have to reboot (sucks).
Vengence has also expressed some interest
in helping me with some of the updates so I'm going to start signing the
end of the updates with my initials so folks can keep up with who's updating
what...-T2d

room for...200$ a day. O well, the search continues. I sent off the little
disposable camera I used to grab the LAN pictures with, have to wait a
little longer than usual since they have to send it somewhere different
than were they send regualr film rolls. The Clan

LAN Party...wow! That
was a blast...just seemed to go by too quick. Sleep is the only thing I
didn't get an excess of. I would like to thank [EDK]Lonka
for the use of the tables and extra network cards and
DG|Vandal for bringing them from Charlotte to Raleigh for us and
of course all that came and played. Check out the Raleigh
Quake LAN Party Link for a more in depth summary of the Party.
Two things that were cool in terms of must
have was a sound file that Jackal/Mike brought called Internet
from the show King of the Hill. And a
gfx.wad replacement that chages the crosshair
in quake from white to red and brightens the Quake fonts (makes them look
REAL cool...thanks DS|Bacchus). Just place this in your QW directory. To
download to your harddrive, hold down the Shift then click on the
Link.

LAN party...Always
seems like there is just not enought time to put one of these together
as the time closes near. Hopefully we'll have enough tables and LAN adapters.
I decided at the last minute to run the QW server off my P166/64meg Laptop...the
respawns are almost instant after death...there is no waiting or studdering.
I also downloaded and tried the QW32 player expansion
pack and came to the conclusion that those boards are big, almost
TOO big. SO! I've selected some prime Id levels for play and have created
2 local loop files; Small and Big for level looping. I was unable to get
the Drop Quad/Invis to work as I had in the past...still don't know why,
but it just doesn't work like it did before. It was a QWctf progs/qwprogs.dat
that I was using for DM that worked...but now doesn't. I have all the servers
using the "localinfo" varible to setup map rotations. This why no ones
has to sit there and manually change levels to skip over levels that aren't
as tasty as say the next level.
Here's the tip of
the day for all you folks wondering why "-game qwring" never finds
the qwprogs.dat on dedicated QW servers. Exchange "-game" for "+gamedir"
and all will work. Maybe someone knew this one, but I've never seen it
mentioned anywhere. I got it from the setup instructions for Rocket
Arena.

Loser boy...Really
nothing going on except that I found a fly mouse pad that makes my mouse
seem like a a puck on a air hockey table.
It's called the "3M Precise mousing surface" and it ran me about 15$ but
it was worth. Rocket
Arena is pretty cool as well. There are tons of quake mods out there
so it's easy to get saturated but this one's pretty cool. Put the server
together for the LAN party and ultimately for a spot on a friends T1 as
a private EDK server for scrimms and testing and stuff. It's only a P90
(Thanks to Raider for MB/CPU) but it's RedHat
Linux 4.2 on 32mes of RAM so it should turn and burn under the user
load...we'll see during the LAN Party. The "Localinfo" command for the
2.0X QW servers pretty much rocks...I'll be setting up all the QW servers
here for the LAN Party with it so that the servers only loop between only
the "prime and tasty" levels...If the P90
doesn't hold up, I do have a backup p166mmx/64meg machine that I can use
if needed. Last time we used a p100 with 32megs and had no problem running
3 servers (FFA/CTF/QWring). We'll see what the load of 16+ folks does in
terms of performance. I've heard folks on the net bragging of P2 machines
as QW servers...what a waste.

O man...More
genocide news. Played Clan COTE in a very
heated match (for us anyway) that was filled with trash talk from both
sides...bad. Couldn't agree on a server for what seemed like forever...found
one everyone could agree on and got on. We compromised a good server connection
in an effort to get the show on the road, big mistake....lesson learned.
We lost both games and the match, live and learn. We then played Clan
WD, that was fun. I actually had a good connection and enjoyed getting
my butt beat by the best with out any lag to get the way. Thursday we played
Clan SeismicForce and one that one. Good to end the week on a positive
note even tho WolfPack was moved back to Tues 9pm EDT. I will be putting
a comprehesive Email about the details and need to knows about the LAN
Party (Correct Like directions, aka Exit 289).

Genocide Update...yet
another strange genocide match (which one isn't?). EDK over GEC 129-61.
The first game went terrible with one of the GEC dudes dropping and someone
having to replace him. On top of that I was having the worst case of lockups
and lag ever. So we lose the first game 39-48, I reconnect (Different ISP),
and everyone ready's up. I get a TON of lag (blue bars) right before the
start and some bad lockups during the game (but not as bad as the first
game). Then like a few minutes into the match one of the GEC dudes start
calling for a change of server...the general rule I've always followed
was once a match has started, to just play thru it. To make matters even
weirder, one of the dudes said one of our guys popped in right before the
game started and type cl_playmip (which everyone
saw because it was the wrong syntax) and that caused/started all the lag
(gl_playermip is the correct syntax and it's
a GL command...We all use GL in EDK). When I tried to explain all this
he cried be and when I was in the channel further explaining with url's
and pasted text he wanted to kick me from the #clan_GEC channel. I was
just trying to defend myself and EDK's win. I do understand where GEC was
coming from but they should not have readied up if they wanted to change
servers. Guess it's time to repost my favorite top ten list:
Top 10 ... ways
that goats & llamas run their clans!
10 Post your
clan on every tournament page but never accept any challenges.
9 Be very
unorganized, and then claim the other clan is unorganized to cover it up.
8 If you
play a clan that uses team strategies, flame them as cheaters and campers.
Why should they play as a team?
7 Designate
a teammate as the "whining llama," thus distracting the otherclan in hopes
of getting a frag.
6 If the
other clan does not respond to 7, argue amongst yourselves.
5 If
you win the first round and start losing the second, complain about severe
and unplayable lag and try to end the match. It doesn't matter that you're
onthe same server.
4 Ask
some of your teammates to leave during the match (this helps 3).
3 If you
get slaughtered in the first round, cancel the second and call the whole
match a scrimmage. If they have email proving you agreed to an official
match,heck, they edited it!
2 Post
wins, but not losses. Tell them you haven't had the time if they notice...stall!
They'll forget eventually.
1 When
all else fails: close down your clan, change the name and start a new one.

Was checking out Zanshin's
GL Dojo and for the explanation as to why it seems to play faster than
GLquake, this is what he explained:
The answer is
simple. Hexen II doesn't have any dynamic lighting. (Even if you use the
torch, that's not like Quake) It appears that all the lighting is pre-rendered,
as opposed to Quake where a lot of the lighting is drawn on the fly. The
equivalent would be to play Quake with r_fullbright 1. Not that this is
anything but an approximation, but you get the idea. I think that if we
asked Raven they would say that the rendering of lightmaps happens a bit
differently than in Quake. Fire a rocket in Quake or GLQuake with gl_flashblend
0 and you'll see the difference from Hexen II in a nutshell
Also have been doing some cool stuff with
Mirc scripting in the channel by reading the Mirc
FAQ. Options to try are !op, !genotime, and some secret hidden words
(Like NIN, Helmet, & certain bad words).

A small update.EDK
has invited M1rage to join EDK. We have a
few Genocide matches planned so I should have updates on that tomorrow.
| Friday
August 29th, 1997 11:21pm |
The big update.
Genocide news first. Clan Quest was a Win 122-85. Clan Descration was a
reschedule to Thrusday. Next day Clan Legacy was a 146-38 lose with some
of the most craziest connection problems I've EVER seen. I could'nt get
a connection that wasn't timing out and 2 folks in the game had to both
reconnect at least once just in game one. We got it straight for the second
game but still lost the match. The OAS match was another joke...won the
first game at like 63-23, switched servers for the second were I timed
out and couldn't reconnect and Raider also got booted for an extended amount
of time. We lost so bad in the second that we lost the match (7-76). No
Comment. Thrusday Clan Devo was a no show at 9 (I didn't set this one up
and didn't know the contact name to follow up) and the Clan Descration
reschedule was won by EDK 131-81. In general our connections were our biggest
foe, having 2 match out comes altered by bad connections. Another reason
I want to field a LPB team eventually...
The second big news
is that EDK has parted ways with it's parent clan ECC. Why?...was given
the ultimatum to either re-merge with ECC or lose access to all the ECC
resources (WEB/QW server). O well, fun while it lasted.
Reason why this update has taken so long
to get done is that not only did I have to move the web server from a frontpage
web server to a case sensitive unix web server but I also changed the name
structure a little and had to do lots of minor updates to make it compatible
with it's new home. I've ALSO gotten a new
job and have been busy getting that settled and turning in notice and things
as such. Hope to work on the look and feel of the page over the long weekend...

This is for all those folks wondering (as
I did) exactly how to red the Netgraph readings
(besides the percentage of Packet loss). I got this from the Following
link on QuakeWorld.net.
-
The height of the pink lines towards the bottom is your latency on received
packets.
-
Red lines are lost packets. (bad)
-
Yellow lines are from the rate command kicking in, it's data that wasn't
sent to you because you didn't have the bandwidth for it.
(OK)
-
Blue lines are very bad, they invalid delta's, and are related to the U_REMOVE
warnings.

Wow! What a day...first things first. The
ECC homepage has
come under new management (sorta). [ECC]Rezin
has stepped up to help out in keeping it up to date. Check under the opening
graphic for timely ECC/EDK news. Also [ECC]Rezin
is also heading the QW DM LPB Team, which should be interesting since ECC
used to be a "no lpb" clan. In other note worthiness news... [ECC]Huntsman
has stepped up to help put together a QW DM HPB ECC team.
In other cool news the JavaQuake
web page that was closed down due to Copyright infringments with
ID
has been redone and reopened... Frag
Isloand - Caffeine Overdose. It takes a while (ie a long time) but
it's worth a look for sure. Also a site named simply 24
has about every 3rd party level availible categorized on one web site.
Also all you QW server admin's take a look at this cool site that offers
a modified qwprogs.dat with droppable Quad/Ring of Invis as well as cpu
optimized code...Possum's
QWprogs Patch. Also check out Plantet Quakes Console
Command List. For all those super secret console commands...

Real life keeps cutting into my Quake...the
ultimate twitch game. Some late Genocide News:
Lost Cause handed us another Genocide loss. In the first game, Mindfazr
got dropped/timed out in the first minute of play that cause the next 13minutes
to basically be a 3v3 (again!). Lost Cause took
the second game to take the match. We have an incrediblely full next week
with already 5 genocide matches planned and already another one planned
for the week after that! We are trying to limit the genocide matches to
Tuesday and Wednesday
since those days are good for most everyone and the rest of the
week can be spent scrimming and practicing and enjoying other RealLife
activities....and of course we don't do weekends (Saturday/Friday). Check
the Genocide Results page for scheduling.
We are activiely trying to recruit another
LPB and a couple of HPB's. A note that I don't like to mention but will
is that joining EDK is based on 2 things: Playing ability and how well
that person gets alongs with everyone else in EDK.

Not so good genocide
news: Clan EG handed us a lose...this
match was decided in the first 5 minutes with EG doing a very good job
of sweeping the board of all weapons and enemy (us). Moving...as most of
you know EDK is activiely recruiting some
more members to help file some spots we have open. I have added a "New
members form" link to the left for all new candidates to fillout.
This form will help answer some basic questions that have to be asked but
that get old after asking 3-4 times...going
to do some more web page renovations by the weekend to help enhance the
look and feel. Something is eating the spaces between words...I'm looking
in to why.

Updated the Genocide
page (Doh!). So hard to keep things up to date. Update one thing
only to find the next out of date. [EDK]Mindfazr
updated the EDK skins this weekend. You could almost call it the
EDKskin pak! The big difference between
the new edk1/4 and the old onesis that the new ones allow the vest color
to change to what ever you haveyour shirt at. Very Nifty.

Thanks go out to the DigitalCorp.
for putting me up in great Hotel over looking the SanFrancisco
Bay. Our Genocide match with clan
Rage was postponed. I was in their channelWednesday And saw that
they had like 3-4 matches all lined up...pretty good idea. Monkey see...monkey
do. Hopefully we'll get a day or 2 set asideand do the same...In other
news I finally got 2 PC's on my network to bothshare the ISDN connection
with a decent playable ping (just around 200).I'll also finally put a date
in stone for the LAN party (Sat. Sept. 20th?).I would also like to say
that California has some pretty groovy folks aswell...

Some More Genocide News:Finally
got with Clan Quest and had our Genocide match.A
very close match. The second match was plagued with lag and timeouts.Mindfazr
was dropped and Raider was having crazy timeouts. The lag wasso bad (how
bad was it!...) that Spitfire and Vertigo couldn't come inbecause of 400+
pings. Quest did a good job and were real good sports whenwe were trying
to get everyone together (it took us about 30-40 minutesto find a server
and get everyone together)...only switch servers once...finalscore was
72-60 EDK.

Some Genocide News:Our
Sunday Game with Quest fell thru...andthere
never seems to be anyone in their channel that can help me reschedule. Then
our Match with LostArmy blew up yesterday.I
got tied up and couldn't make it till 10:30 (suppose to start around9).
But the first game seems to have taken 2 hours to get going. Then thesecond
one they could only get 3 folks. We changed servers 3 times (includingthe
"Evil" LoD QWring server!) and in theprocess
pissed multiple members of both clans into uncontrolable fits offrustration.
The bottom line was a 139/27 EDK victory. Rumor hasit that Lost
Army [LA] has disbanned. I bookeda Genocide match with Lost
Cause forNext wednesday (8/20) 8pm EDT (Early match).
Check the EDK Genocidepage for more details.

some juicy details (Better than Blues). Also added the Genocidelink

it flys!!!! Having toget used to the smaller display and where thing
are. Some folks have beencomplaining of slower frame rates...not me! Thing
just FLYS!!! Fixed mostof the wierd spacing problems in the EDK page. Don't

Third Genocide MatchWrapup:
A happy ending!
In our Third
genocide match we were victorous over ThePhoneJack
Devision of Lagitus 107/58. I would like to take thistime to thank
Lockness for working with us on scheduling the match sinceit was moved
back and forth a couple of time before actually settling ontoday and for
also understanding some connection issues we worked thoughbetween the first
and second match. I will be putting a GenocideMatch
Results page up soon with a link to the side as an easy wayto glance
at our genocide tourney record.

Starting to formulate the date of my nextLAN
party...probablylooking towards the
2nd weekend in September(13th)
(The
little flamingskull is the EDK version of a happy face...blues has his,
why shouldn'tI have mine?). We wont be doing the separate rooms thing again
(at leastto the extreme it was last time). Why? I felt the two room were
a littlealienated from each other. Things will probably be a little more
scheduledas well since I know there will be some who will want to play
some 1on1stuff and some other types of game play. I am in the minority
when I saythis, but with over 10 folks who are interested in playing team
games,CTF provides support of 5plus teams a lot easier than trying to organizea
bunch of DM Team games. This especially becomes an issue when we hadodd
numbers of folks (say like 12) and folks have to sit games out. Themain
point of LAN Parties is to play...to sit around watching others isvery
frustrating (sound familiar?). I probably will mail out a questionnaireasking
what folks want and/or expect in a LAN party experience.I learned a lot
from the last one, I just need to have a feel for whatfolks are expecting
to play and/or do at the LAN party.
Still can't make heads or tails of Frontpage97'seditor.
I can edit this page twice as fast in Commincator4 than I can in. Frontpage.
Frontpage97's editor reminds me of Netscape3's editor. Can't get Frontpage
to use Netscape as the default editor either...thecommand for the netscape
editor it like "netscape -edit", but it doesn'tlike that...

Second Genocide Match
Wrapup:Wouldliketo play a straight forward match with no problems
(Extreme problems, likeall the vnet guys not getting dropped) or misunderstandings.
We gotbeatin our 2nd Genocide Match. Towards the end of the match (last
7 minutes)wefinally got control and weren't giving it up. So the match
ends andallthe LoD guys take off...little
did we knowthat the rule of playing 2 games and adding the scores up only
appliedtothe last genocide tourney. LoD were
lessthansportsman like...and so that they didn't feel lonely, we started
showingourunsportsman like side to,.we felt like they were blowing us off,
saidsomethingswe probably shouldn't of...I got kick/bannedfromthe
#lod channel and that about did it. What started as a misunderstandinginthe
rules got blown out of proportion. The whole Situation left a badtastein
my mouth...
In other news...the little flaming dudeabovewas
actually a creation of mine from scratch. Only took a few hoursto whiptogether.
Also check out this GL Bench mark page this guy put together...Matt'sGLQuakeBenchmarks

EDK has successfully entered the GenocideTourney.I
think we tried to late to enter the QUAD tourney, but Ithink Genocidewill
keep us more than a little busy (4 Matches in lessthan a week). EDKhas
been pretty successful in scrimmages but since scrimmagesare off therecord...I
haven't been posting any scores. The Genocides arepostable matchestho so
that will change. The members page has been updated.I'm still tryingto

Top 10 ... waysthatgoats
& llamas run their clans!
10 Post yourclanon
every tournament page but never accept any challenges.
9 Be veryunorganized,
and then claim the other clan is unorganized to coverit up.
8 If youplay
a clan that uses team strategies, flame them as cheaters andcampers. Why
should they play as a team?
7 Designatea
teammate as the "whining llama," thus distracting the otherclan in hopesof
getting a frag.
6 If theother
clan does not respond to 7, argue amongst yourselves.
5 If youwin
the first round and start losing the second, complain aboutsevere andunplayable
lag and try to end the match. It doesn't matter thatyou're onthe same server.
4 Asksome
of your teammates to leave during the match (this helps 3).
3 If youget
slaughtered in the first round, cancel the second and call thewholematch
a scrimmage. If they have email proving you agreed to an officialmatch, heck,
they edited it!
2 Postwins,
but not losses. Tell them you haven't had the time if they notice...stall!They'll
forget eventually.
1 Whenall
else fails: close down your clan, change the name and start anew one.

Believe it or not...I'm not dead. Just haven't
been able to take my eyes off that Quake2 chick
to do an update (Actually been busy with work and trying to find a house...RealLife
sucks). With that said, about everyone in ECC/EDK is out of town..I saw
who I believe was the real DA-MAN[ECC] but
not sure, haven;t seen anything posted about his return. Saw Kahn
actually 2 Saturdays ago (all you old school guys probably remember him).
I have been actually enjoying some NQ CTF Quake
on the Weekends (in my spare time) and people keep asking me..."hey man...I
thought you only played QW?". The thing is I can't play QW CTF, basically
because the Grapple doesn't work right...I actually wouldn't mind doing
more CTF except I just dont have time to do both DM and QW. I will be moving
next week...I'm thinking of trying to put together a LAN
Party. The main concern would be seeing exactly how much space there
is in the New House in reference to stuffing 12-16 folks into it (the house
is about 2000 sq ft).

The Frontpage97 editor is very limiting,,,this
is probably since I'm used to using Netscape4's HTML Editor. That and the
fact that it wants to put spaces and extra formating that changes the spacing

for Evil Death Klownz, which is an Inner ECC team dedicated to QuakeWorld
Team DeathMatch. I am aware that there is a clan called Death Clownz and
another called killer clowns...but none that I know of that are Evil Death
Klownz. Why spell Clowns as Klownz?, because the initals look cooler with

is small since this is a team I am just now starting...further details

This was of course just a practice Scriammges. Wish I had more pics to

A couple cool things:
Real Cool QW Tip:Try
"M_FILER 1" to reduce the herky jerky while
turning corners. Try it...it does make a difference. Also on Rewood's I
saw somethings American "Tokay" McGee mentioned about Quake2 while on #Quake2
on the UnderNet IRC network.
-
No Lightning Gun
in Quake 2
-
So far, weapons
include Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Grenade Launcher, Railgun (ala the movie
Eraser), bfg type weapon (not designed yet), a disintegrator (enemies literally
fade away), grenade type weapons: mines, personal nukes, black holes)
-
no midi support
-
Quake maps will
not easily be converted to Quake 2
-
monster models with
be extremely smooth animation due to interpolation allowing as many frames
of animation as the machine can create
-
More of an inventory
system along with the basic weapons,
-
Something I thought
wasn't going to be in but he says is, is ducking. I don't think I like
that, as I don't think it adds well to the gameplay.
-
The use key is back
in, except from what I understand it will be used for puzzles only, not
for door opening, etc.
ThunderWalker
CTF 3.01 is out and the ECC Forums are still
down...

in my CTF directory. There were CTF, Free for all's (FFA),
and some team DM shots. These are a little better representation of the
LAN Party on Saturday. Check'em out!.
Also Check out This cool Nine
Inch Nails News page Moon passed on to me. Vicster passes on this Screen
Shot of the scrimmage between PL and ECC (us). Pretty Cool...Also,
there seems to be a QW
ClanRing. Something we should be involved in if we're not already...

Not to much happening...Check out the handy
program qfig
(really work a look). It has a real tasty rocket
jump macro that was seen in use in the M3 demo's I have linked below.
Also check out the History
of 3D Shooters, pretty Cool. Still an old fan of Rise
of the Triad (ROTT) for it's support for 11 player network games
(when everything else was just boring 4). The biggest ROTT game I was ever
involved in was a 9 player game. Also check out what Disruptor
had to say about the QW master port scheme:
Well,
seems like my request for serveradmins to use the correct port went largely
unheard. Here's the new structure.
192.246.40.12:27000
Limbo (Big, unorganized mess)
192.246.40.12:27006
Deathmatch
192.246.40.12:27002
CTF
192.246.40.12:27003
Team Fortress
192.246.40.12:27004
Modified Progs
I would
immagine that most serverops running Deathmatch only servers with the standard
QuakeWorld progs would want to use the port 27006 master.
Note:About a week ago Idsoftware Re-did their
Web page, check it out if you already haven't (Nothing really new)...Also
something to think about, I get about a 50 ping penlty everytime I use
the CL_NODELTA 1 switch in QW (which is a
setting that gets rid of U_REMOVE errors).
If anyone disagrees or would like to comment, please email me back...

PainKeep...it's
a DeathMatch only TC but boy is it fun. The HarpoonGun(Grapple) can actually
grapple stuff to you from a distance (including people). Pretty Cool...Also
check out Disruptors
.plan. He has been real busy doing some really cool QW stuff, worth
the look (Random Respawns/Droppable Quad). There is a funny "SWCD" article
on Scary's Page...gotta
look down the page a bit.
Note:I was
real busy last week and out of town for the weekend, but I do want to finish
the "One on One" DM Contest this week. (Plus
a little burned out from the LAN Party...check the ping times on the screen
shots I have posted below, 40-80 ping times with 14 folks...)

Check out these carzy demos...DM2(Honus/Kurtz),DM6(Honus/RonBob),
and another
DM6(Honus/RonBob) from M3 These are a must for any serious DM player...there
are some tricks and tips in each one...Here's
the page I got these demo links from. (Unzip and Stick it in your ID1
direcotry, launch NQ and type playdemo demoname.dem). Worth the Look...also
check the DM Guidelines which I put a link
up to the right <---. Also take a look at these Pictures from M3...Page
No.1 & Page
No. 2. Took down the CTF match results
I had up since they were so outta date...would love for someone to send
me any screen shots of any matches/scrimmages
I might miss... Here's a tip: If anyone wants
to record the console messages (say like what folks are saying while observing
a DM team scrimmage), you can do so by using "qwcl -condebug" to start
your game. This will make a qconsole.log file in your QW directory (or
a qconsole.log in your ID1 directory when playing NormalQuake) that you
can open in a text editor later....

Here's some Screen Caputers of the "little
m3" LAN Gathering we had this last
weekend...these do not give a complete picture as I most of the time got
caught up in the action and was too busy waiting for the next board to
do a screen capture...but here our a few that I did get (please send any
additinal ones anyone might have...) <<<<Screen

Take a look at the LAN
Party pics
MrBungle took of us this weekend. A few notes: Saturday night was crazy,
I thought we would setup, play a game or 2 and everyone would go home and
wait for tomorrow...next thing I know it's 3am. Then Saturday, we get started
aroun 12 and play straight till 6/7 then get back from dinner and play
till 4am. Who was there? Vdog Time2Die Spitfire
Lonka Keelay Delusion Gargoyle (Friend of Lonka's) Killnu4u (Friend of
t2d) Crusher Huntsman RobRoy Rezin Fungu Wild1 Noogman 2 guys from Vnet
and MrBungle (Of course)(If I forgot someone....sorry). We had 12-14 player
games of CTF, Team DM, and just regular kill'em all
DM.
Thanks go out to
John Orr (Lonka) for bringing all the extra network cards/cables and helping
set them up. Thanks to MrBungle for letting us take over his house for
the weekend. I provided the server & hubs so I guess thanks go out
to me(T2d). And thanks to all that made it to the LAN Gathering and kept
a postive attitude. Our next one will be more ambitious and more organized
just from already having this one and learning from it.
Check out these new (as in version) QW
screen shots Screen1 & Screen2.
Ever here of
WinNuke!?!?, well
this program will crash your 95 or NT box remotely over IP. Ok, that was
the bad news, now the good...there are fixes for both 95(Click
here)and NT(Click here). (Reboot!)Commentary:
I don't know all the details but I would say this is a pretty big/bad
hole in Microsofts IP stack.

LAN PARTY TIME!
I'll be in Charlotte till probably Sunday doing the Lan party thing. Played
my match against Vdog and Won...probably do a rematch this weekend. Pretty
happy all in all with turn out and support. Friday and Saturdays schedule
has been rescheduled for next Monday and Tuesday or later depending on
Holiday plans of others. Finally was around for a scrimmage against the
COW clan, Check the Highlights here. Only played
one board since it was getting late for most...gotta run!

" One on One"
Schedule for the next 2 days.
Qspy 5.21 Also
grab the 4th installment of QW
Skins. Take a look at the lastest "One on One"
standings here. Some wierd stuff and mis-communications but should
even out as we begin the Second Round tonight. Sure wish the record demo
feature was ready for QW, I know the upcoming matches are going to be good...
Also take a look at what Disruptor updated
in his .plan:
I
was working on the QuakeWorld progs for a bit and fixed a few
issues.
The updated progs are running on our QuakeWorld server at;
underworld.idsoftware.com
(192.246.40.169)
The
fixes are;
-
Double, tripple, and in some cases, quadruple damage bug fixed
-
Player velocity is no longer carried over on respawn
-
Respawn telefrags are now a thing of the past
I
would like to "stress-test" them for a while before I release them.
Please
e-mail me should any of the aforementioned bugs crop up
again.
Hopefully the patch will be out before
this weekend so we can use the QW server and client that we're all used
to now.

Got some cool info...Qspy
5.2 is supposed to come out today, but their homepage was down as
of 2pm today.. Here are the certified SoundBlaster
Drivers for DirectX. Not using these current drivers has been linked
to machines crashing while running QW. Also take a look at these screen
shots for this killer level that is still under development... SkyBase.
Also check this cool Java
IRC client out from Stomped. Also, here
is the word from Stomped's
console commands web page on the SV_AIM
issue that keeps popping up...
SV_AIM
Default:
0.93
The
SV_AIM variable controls the treshold for autotargeting, ie. how far from
an enemy must you be pointing for the weapon to automatically target it.
With a value of 0 you can't miss, with a value of 1 you _almost_ always
fire exactly where you point at.
Pretty interesting...I emailed Jonn
Carmack trying to get the low down on this topic and this is what HE said
(Still can't beleive I got a response...same day no less):
If noaim 1 is set in quakeworld, the value of
sv_aim does not matter at all for that client.
sv_aim is actually a vector dot product compare
to determine how far the angle is away from straight on.
John Carmack
Ok...can someone translate the last
part?

Well...Hunter>p<ECC>
has announced that he'll be moving on from ECC because:
As much as I hate to do so,
it's time for me to "retire" from ECC. I just received a job offer, which
I've accepted, that will require long-term absences. I'm going to manage
a computer department aboard ship, and will be at-sea for long periods
of time.
In other news...the "One on One"
DM match begins tomorrow and the LAN Party
is this coming Saturday (In other words a full week). Check this
link for the final news on the MMX thing and 3D games like....Quake
(pretty interesting). Also, the Windows
NT4 Service Pack3 was released Friday. It
adds new DirectX support so that all Windows95 games will run in NT4 (X-Wing
vs. Tie Fighter???). The Final rules are up for the "One
on One" tournament... I think they are pretty fair. I just spell
checked this page...o boy, the errors I found. Please feel free to drop
me email tomorrow about the matches tomorrow night if you have a problem...

I'll be out of town Friday and Saturday (Probably) so...no
updates till Sunday. A few schedule conflicts with the 1 on 1 tournament,
but other than that...everything is cool.I don't
know how I overlooked it, but Friday and Saturday's Round 3 and
4's games will probably be rescheduled for Next Monday and Tuesday since
next Friday and Saturday is the Lan Party. If for some reason the finalist
are also attending the party...I think we'll have those matches on the
LAN :> Vicster And I tried a few boards just one on one to find out
if 20minutes is too short...it is. I think 30 minutes
30 frags will be plenty. By the time you get into the grove, about
15 minutes has passed, so 20 just didn't flow right. Also for board selection
I think DM2, DM6, and DM4 (in that order of
play) will be the boards for the match.

has been nice enough to email me with more details this Seismograph program...
SeismoGraph Home
Page and updated Seismograph
Program (The link below has been updated
as well)..

Check out this util for keeping up with your deathmatch
stats - SeismoGraph
- It's got a bot in the zip, but ignore that and just read about how to
rip the stats out of the qconsole.log. Here's a few tips Jones and I found
out about this cool util...in QW world, the qconsole.log file is in the
QW directory, not the ID1 directory. You enable the console logging by
running either "(Win)quake -condebug" or "qwcl
-condebug" Maybe there is a way to do this at the command prompt,
but I don't know what it is yet...Also rename the EXE to something smaller
like qlog.exe instead of seismograph.exe (too long!) This is one cool way
to keep up with all the cool stats for the "one on one" tournament. (Thanks
go out to Jones-pECC for alerting to this util).

Trying to decide if the 1 on 1 DM contest should start
this week or next. I have decided to get all the names together and throw
them in a hat and pick the teams out that way. Jones has also expressed
an idea about moving the timelimit to 20 minutes instead of 30.Still waiting
for a few more responses before I try to start creating a schedule...email
me if you have any ideas you want to express on the issue QWSERVER
TIP - try when on the Cltonline QW server, instead of doing "/rcon
password action" try "rcon_password password
" and afterwards you don't have to put the password wih all your /rcon
commands. Also, please lookout for auto-aiming enabled on the server. The
server should have SV_AIM equal to zero .
In scrimage news, Vdog sends this note:
Crusher, Myself, and a DG
"Mr. Montaya" defeated DOA in a scrimm last night! Montoya was ahead but
only by 5 frags from Crusher and myself.

ECC DM Contest...mail me! (It came to me in a dream)
or (You can run, but you'll just die!). The deal is a double elimination
contest to find the top ECC DM player and have a good time. No prizes except
for bragging rights! (Nuff said). Play Duke Nuk'em? here's a naughty level
from Penthouse
, It's 2 megs so watch it... I ripped this from redwoods
page...
I asked John Carmack in email
about when the next public GL Quake version would be released. He did not
specify a timeframe but said the next version released would be the unified
GL/QuakeWorld client. I can't wait! Also, I asked what video cards coming
out in the near future might be fast enough to play GL Quake and he said
the Verite V2000 and Permedia P2 will probably be fast enough.
I would love to play these levels at the Lan Party...Judas24
and Kndybase
. These are standards here at the Time2Die home. Also, I fixed the links
opening in this frame and not a full windows (My mistake!). How quickly
I forget.

the same.

Check things out. I put this page up mostly because
I felt that no one was really keeping up with the goings on of the ECC.
This is an Un-official page so as to not to step on others toes. I plan
on putting up news, screen shots and demos(When QW starts supporting them)
of matches and scrimages as well as playing tips and info. Example would
be that I keep getting a lot of "u_remove" errors when playing on crowded
servers. I read on QWCentral
that "cl_nodelta 1" will stop those messages
(vdog had also recommended this, but not to what it did). I'll be working
on the finer edges of this page all this week, but this basically is it.
